Carson National Forest Camps-The Carson National Forest is located in the north central mountains of New Mexico near the community of Chama.  This area holds high elk numbers with great odds on drawing a license.  Here you have the choice of a large tent camp or modern cabin accommodations.  The Carson’s terrain is less demanding physically and can be hunted by most people.  Temperatures can reach into the high 80’s during archery season and drop down to below zero during the last rifle hunt.  Elevations range from 7500 ft in the sage brush country to 11000 ft at timberline.  Vegetation includes sage brush, pinon, juniper, pine, spruce & aspen.

Gila National Forest Camps-The Gila National Forest is located in the south west mountains of New Mexico.  This area holds high quality elk but low draw odds to obtain a license.  Here the accommodations are limited to a tent camp due to wilderness restrictions in most areas.  The terrain demands moderate physical condition and can be hunted by most people.  Temperatures reach into the high 90’s during archery season and drop down to the 30’s during the rifle seasons.  Elevations range from 6500 ft in the juniper & pinion country to 10000 ft in the high spruce.  Vegetation includes pinon, juniper, pine, spruce & some aspen.
